“Moulin Rouge Is Next” is one of Misha Phillips’ first releases under her own name, having previously made adjacent sounds as Smoking Room, Air Balloon and as part of drone duo Hooded Jumper. This release puts to use some of the final recordings made in Misha’s previous home, before it was hit by a devastating housefire, exactly a year to the day of release, master tapes rescued from the wreckage. Flowing constantly, the record seamlessly shifts between soothing drones and gentle vocals, blown out guitar, spluttering rumbling noise, piercing feedback, tape hiss and manipulated samples, whilst never taking you out of the emotional atmosphere it creates. From the fire something truly special emerges.
